Member for Baulkham Hills David Elliott today urged Hills residents to nominate a deserving grandparent for the Grandparent of the Year Award.
Mr Elliott said that grandparents were often the unsung heroes in families.
“Grandparents Day recognises the vital roles of grandparents in our society, as mentors, volunteers, carers, story tellers and friends,” Mr Elliott said.
“In some circumstances this goes all the way through to taking on the responsibility of full time care of grandchildren.
Awarded to three extraordinary individuals for the invaluable care, love and guidance they provide in the community, the Grandparent of the Year Awards are given across three categories:
Carer – recognising an outstanding grandparent who is also the primary carer of their grandchild/ren
Volunteer - recognising a grandparent who has made an exceptional contribution by volunteering their time to activities that support their grandchild/ren.
Mentor - recognising a senior member of the community who is involved in activities which involve them serving as a mentor to younger people in the community.
Nominations close Friday, 4 October.
