Hills MPs David Elliott and Dominic Perrottet today expressed their delight at the unanimous approval of the Liberal partyroom of Premier Mike Baird’s electricity sale proposal to fund infrastructure investments across New South Wales.
Mr Elliott, a former Chief Executive Officer for the Civil Contractor’s Federation, said the decision demonstrated political maturity.
“I have seen two Labor Premiers fail when it came to electricity privatisation because the interests of the people of NSW were given no consideration,” Mr Elliott said.
“The Baird Government has now put NSW first and this sale will ensure the infrastructure upgrades which are necessary to make NSW Number One Again.”
Mr Elliott and Mr Perrottet led the argument in favour of electricity privatisation within the partyroom, and Mr Perrottet said the pending sale will help deliver on the promise of the North West Rail Link.
“The single deck service of the North West Rail Link will now travel into the Sydney CBD, as promised, thanks to the funds which will be raised by the electricity sale,” Mr Perrottet said.
“This sale will deliver a second harbour crossing, which will cater for the single deck metro carriages to be used on the North West Rail Link.
“The biggest winners from this sale will be the people of NSW, who will enjoy lower electricity prices, better electricity infrastructure, more rail infrastructure and more roads, hospitals and schools.”
