The Hills Gets Behind Football’s Asian Cup

Hills State Liberals David Elliott and Mark Taylor were joined today by former Socceroo Mark Bosnich and prominent members of the Hills football community to help launch the Asian Cup.

Mr Elliott said the Asian Cup would provide an enormous boost to the game of football at a local level with one of the game’s major tournaments being played in Australia.

“The Asian Cup is the biggest ever football tournament held in Australia,” Mr Elliott said.

“Sydney will host seven games at Stadium Australia (ANZ Stadium), including the Socceroos v Oman, a quarter-final, semi-final and final, so there is no excuse for Sydney football fans to miss out on this marquee event.”

Mr Taylor said he hoped the Asian Cup would encourage the provision of more playing fields within the community to better cater for the enormous demand from local footballers.

“The Hills faces the same issue as the whole of Greater Western Sydney, in a lack of playing fields,” Mr Taylor said.

“Major events always bring a legacy, and I will be working with Councils across the region to deliver greater playing opportunities to our next generation of footballing talent.”
