David Elliott, Member for Baulkham Hills, has encouraged local youth with a strong commitment to our community to apply to participate in the 2012 NSW YMCA Youth Parliament.
“The NSW Youth Parliament aims to promote youth-led advocacy, active community leadership and legal and parliamentary education,” Mr Elliott said.
“The successful applicant will participate in a series of activities in the lead up to the Youth Parliament, including community engagement; sit down discussions with their local MP and their staff, and a series of training camps where they will develop their legislative agendas.
“The Youth Parliament is an outstanding opportunity for young people to engage with their community, their peers and to develop a stronger understanding of the Parliamentary process.”
Applications for residents of the Baulkham Hills electorate close on 11 November, as submissions from Members of Parliament close on 18 November.
Students interested should be:
-15 to 18 years of age as of April 2012
-able to undertake a three day training camp in April, a week-long residential camp in the July school holidays, and:-
-ongoing work regarding their Youth Parliament activities
Students who reside in the Baulkham Hills electorate are invited to submit a 1000 word essay on The Importance of Parliamentary Democracy. Successful applicants will be invited to an interview with Mr Elliott the following week.
