Baulkham Hills State Liberal MP David Elliott has welcomed school-level improvements shown by NAPLAN data, as parents across NSW receive their child’s results.
Mr Elliott said many schools across the state have returned improved student results and NSW has the highest NAPLAN participation rate nationally.
“We are seeing some pleasing improvements at a school level and I applaud our fantastic teachers for continuing to work at such a high standard,” Mr Elliott said.
“NAPLAN provides important diagnostic data to help identify challenges for individual students and give valuable insights at a classroom, school and system level.
“I encourage parents to use these results as the basis for a conversation with teachers about how they can work together to improve their child’s results.”
Mr Elliott said local schools had returned some very positive results.
“Crestwood High School Year 7 students have improved on previous results in reading and numeracy,” Mr Elliott said.
“It’s very pleasing to see Crestwood High School getting results substantially higher than in 2014 and to perform well above the State’s mean.”
Highlights from the 2015 NAPLAN results for NSW include:
- Highest mean scores of all states and territories for spelling in Years 5, 7 and 9;
- Highest percentage of all states and territories of students in the top band for spelling across all year levels;
- Highest percentage of all states and territories of students in the top band for numeracy for Years 5, 7 and 9; and
- Significant increase in mean scores for Year 3 reading and for grammar and punctuation between 2008 and 2015.
