Baulkham Hills State Liberal MP David Elliott today welcomed the announcement by Minister for Ageing John Ajaka that nominations are now open for the 2015 NSW Grandparent of the Year Awards.
Mr Elliott is encouraging families in Baulkham Hills to recognise and celebrate the important role grandparents play in their families and community, by nominating them for this year’s Awards.
“Grandparents play an incredibly important role in our community, they support our families and maintain our cultural and family memories,” said Mr Elliott.
“We should celebrate the contribution that our grandparents make like the support they provide our clubs and volunteer organisations that make our community stronger.
“I urge all members of the community to take the time to recognise the enormous contributions made by the older people in their lives, be it the love and support of their grandparents or the dedication of older community leaders, to show their appreciation by nominating someone for an award.”
Nominations for Grandparent of the Year Awards will close on 20 September 2015. The award categories are:
- Grandparent Carer of the Year – for an outstanding grandparent who is also the full-time carer of their grandchild/ren
- Community Grandparent of the Year – for a grandparent who is actively engaged in volunteer work in their community
- Grand Friend of the Year – for an individual aged 50 years or over who has made a positive contribution to children’s lives in a professional capacity (not necessarily a grandparent)
The winners of the Grandparent of the Year Awards will be announced on Grandparents Day, 25 October 2015.
