Baulkham Hills State Liberal MP David Elliott has encouraged local youth with a strong commitment to our community to apply to participate in the 2017 NSW YMCA Youth Parliament.
“The NSW Youth Parliament aims to promote youth-led advocacy, active community leadership and legal and parliamentary education,” Mr Elliott said.
“The successful applicant will participate in a series of activities in the lead up to the Youth Parliament, including community engagement; sit down discussions with their local MP and their staff, and a series of training camps where they will develop their legislative agendas.
“The Youth Parliament is an outstanding opportunity for young people to engage with their community, their peers and to develop a stronger understanding of the Parliamentary process.”
Students interested must:
* be in years 10, 11 or 12 in 2017
* never have participated in the program before
* be able to undertake a three day training camp in April, a week-long residential camp in the July school holidays, and
* be able to complete ongoing work regarding their Youth Parliament activities
Students from the Baulkham Hills electorate are invited to submit a 1000 word essay on The Importance of Freedom of Speech.

Closing date for submission of applications is 5.00pm, Friday 10 March 2017.
