Celebrating Carers This Foster Care Week

Foster Care Week (September 9-15) is an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of the wonderful people who provide loving homes for children in need.

Baulkham Hills State Liberal MP David Elliott said children do best when they live in a nurturing family environment.

“Carers do a fantastic job looking after our most vulnerable children,” Mr Elliott said.

“Our wonderful carers come from all walks of life and it is great to see our carers in Baulkham Hills help the children in their care thrive.

“Foster Care Week serves as a timely reminder that there are those among us that work incredibly hard to make the lives of vulnerable kids better – every day.”

Minister for Family and Community Services Pru Goward said the NSW Government’s new permanency program My Forever Family NSW is working to recruit more carers so children in out-of-home care can be matched with families best suited to their needs.

My Forever Family NSW is the first program of its kind in Australia, giving carers the tailored support they need to ensure children have safety and permanency in their lives,” Ms Goward said.

My Forever Family NSW is a vital resource to educate carers, prospective guardians and adoptive parents about the different ways they can support vulnerable children and families.

The program also includes a dedicated recruitment strategy for Aboriginal people to ensure that Aboriginal children stay connected to their families and community.
