Practical Support To Reduce Small Business Energy Bills

Member for Baulkham Hills David Elliott is urging local small businesses to take advantage of a NSW Government program which can save businesses an average $1600 a year on their energy bills.

Mr Elliott said that any local business can take advantage of the Energy Efficiency for Small Business Program.

“Le Rye dry cleaners of Winston Hills is just one in the Baulkham Hills electorate that has participated in this ambitious programme,” Mr Elliott said.

“Any local business, from accountants and butchers to hairdressers and florists, mechanics, local farmers, tourist attractions and warehouses are eligible,” Mr Elliott said.

The Energy Efficiency for Small Business Program provides small businesses with expert energy assessments and subsidies of up to $5,000 to cover half the cost of energy efficiency upgrades such as new, air-conditioning, air-compressors, electric motors, lighting and refrigeration.

“By participating, you’ll also get a list of actions you can take to save power and money, for little or no cost.

“For example, putting a cover on the glass top of a chest freezer at night can save up to $250 a year. That’s a simple thing that could help most corner stores, cafes, supermarkets and roadhouses to cut energy use and trim their power bill,” Mr Elliott said.

NSW Environment Minister Robyn Parker said the Energy Efficiency for Small Business Program is available to small businesses across NSW that have power bills of up to $20,000 and around 10 full-time employees.

“So far, 17,000 small businesses across NSW have taken part in this Program and $6.6 million has been paid to 2,900 businesses who have implemented energy efficiency actions identified.

“Small business is a very important sector in the NSW economy and I encourage all eligible small businesses to take part.

“By helping business keep costs down, we’re securing jobs and helping to keep down the cost of living for all in the community,” Ms Parker said.
