Member for Baulkham Hills, David Elliott, and Member for Castle Hill, Dominic Perrottet, welcomed the announcement by Premier Barry O’Farrell of the return of the NSW Governor to Government House. Mr Elliott said he was delighted the Premier was delivering on one of his election promises.
“I have always been of the view that the Governor should reside in the property that was purpose built to be the residence of the Governor of New South Wales.
“The removal of the Governor from their rightful home was an experiment in Republicanism by stealth, and was always doomed to failure.”
Mr Perrottet said he welcomed the support within the community for the move, particularly with support from both Monarchists and Republicans.
“Even Republicans are supporting this move,” Mr Perrottet said.
“This is a victory for common sense, and is a victory for those who, regardless of their views on the Crown, support the continuation of our state’s heritage and traditions.”
Refurbishment of Government House will be undertaken before the Governor, Professor Marie Bashir, and her husband move into the property shortly after Christmas
