Commonwealth Day Observers Nominations Open

Baulkham Hills State Liberal MP David Elliott today urged younger residents of the community to nominate for the opportunity to attend Commonwealth Day celebrations this year.

Mr Elliott said Commonwealth Day offers an outstanding opportunity to celebrate the contribution the Commonwealth has made to the global community.

“To be held on 14 March in London, Commonwealth Day is famous for fostering discussion of our political and governmental systems while recognising our heritage,” Mr Elliott said.

“Plans include discussions on the Commonwealth, presence at the Observance Ceremony in Westminster Abbey, where Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be in attendance and visits to the British Houses of Parliament.”

Nominees should be aged 18-25, have shown an interest in Commonwealth and parliamentary affairs, displayed potential leadership qualities and be available to travel to London at the time of Commonwealth Day.

Travel costs will be borne by participants.

Nominations to the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association close on Monday, 18 January 2016.
