Baulkham Hills State Liberal MP David Elliott thanked all serving fire fighters in the Hills community who continue to follow in the footsteps of St Florian (the Patron Saint of Fire fighters).
The 4th of May is International Fire Fighters’ Day, or St Florian’s Day, and is celebrated by both NSW Fire & Rescue and the NSW Rural Fire Service with annual ceremonies at which members are honoured with the Commissioners’ highest awards for outstanding acts of bravery of service.
“It is so important that we take the opportunity on this day every year to thank our NSW Rural Fire Service volunteers and NSW Fire & Rescue personnel,” Mr Elliott said.
“As a community, we are enormously proud of the selflessness and dedication shown by our local fire fighters, who respond day in and day out to a emergencies, both here in Baulkham Hills, across NSW, and interstate.
“Their bravery sets the finest example for us all, and serves as a reminder that our emergency services personnel often go above and beyond the call of duty in protecting their communities.”
Minister for Emergency Services Troy Grant said the contribution of fire fighters across NSW is priceless.
“I am always struck by the generosity and selflessness of our emergency services personnel, but none more so than those who fought fires during the most recent bush fires that hit the State in February.
“Some of the fire fighters who had lost so much themselves were out defending the property of others, while others took time away from work to assist in containing the Sir Ivan bushfire that ravaged Western parts of NSW.
“We should never take their contribution for granted, and St Florian’s Day is our opportunity to honour them and the incredible work they do.”
