Member for Baulkham Hills, David Elliott, has welcomed the early announcement from the operators of the M2 Motorway of construction works over the Christmas and New Year period.
“I am pleased that Transurban has made these announcements early, which will allow for motorists to make alternative plans before they find themselves stuck on the M2,” Mr Elliott said.
“Transurban has made a habit of consulting closely with the community, and while the works being carried out are extensive, I am grateful that Transurban has placed the convenience of Christmas travellers first.
Mr Elliott also asked motorists to slow down over the Christmas break.
“One death is one too many over Christmas, and with double demerit points in force from midnight Thursday 22 December to midnight Monday 2 December, I ask all motorists to take extra care to ensure everyone has a safe holiday.”
Work in the citybound tunnel will be undertaken during the day and night from 7am on Tuesday 27 December to 9am on Saturday 31 December 2011 and from 7am on Tuesday 3 to 5am on Monday 9 January 2012.
There will be no upgrade work on the motorway or tunnel from Friday 23 to Monday 26 December 2011 and from Sunday 1 to Monday 2 January 2012.

At least one lane will remain open in each direction during this work. Please note that two lanes in each direction will be available during daytime peak periods. All motorway on and off-ramps will be open during these work times.
Speed limits will be reduced to 40km/h in the contra-flow area. Please drive carefully and follow the signs.
