Member for Baulkham Hills David Elliott today announced that as part of the NSW Government’s 2012-13 Budget schools across the Baulkham Hills electorate will be receiving extra minor maintenance money and funding for upgrading school infrastructure.
The NSW Liberal & Nationals Government is committed to upgrading school facilities across the State.
The Government has delivered on its election commitment to create a $40 million Public School Upgrade Program to enable schools to apply for funding to renovate facilities in poor condition, like science labs, as identified by the principal and school community.
In addition, a $20 million Extra Minor Maintenance Budget was created to boost funding to all schools for basic maintenance. Individual schools are able to determine the maintenance work that this money is spent on.
“I am pleased fourteen schools in Baulkham Hills will receive extra maintenance money this year,” Mr Elliott said.
“Schools will determine how this extra money will be spent.
“Labor left schools in NSW with an almost $1 billion maintenance liability and infrastructure backlog.
In 2012/13, the NSW Government is providing an additional $20 million for maintenance in NSW schools building on last year’s budget. Spending on school maintenance this year will be $318 million, a 22% increase on the previous Government’s last budget.
Capital expenditure on school infrastructure will be $447 million in 2012-13, which includes the building of 6 new schools.
“I am proud that the NSW Government is delivering on its election commitments and has begun to tackle the previous Government’s school maintenance liability and infrastructure backlog.” Mr Elliott said.
