Winston Hills resident Don Stein AM was inducted into the Earthmovers and Civil Contractors Hall of Fame, as the inaugural inductee on 13 September.
Member for Baulkham Hills David Elliott said he was delighted that his good friend had been recognized for his enormous contribution to the civil contracting industry over the last half century.
“In my previous role as CEO of the NSW Civil Contractors Federation, I worked closely with Don and marvelled at his continued energy and enthusiasm even as he passed 80 years of age!” Mr Elliott said.
“Don’s efforts have contributed to the removal of stamp duty on the ‘wet hire of plant hire contracts’ and a complete rearrangement of the registration of mobile industrial, earthmoving and civil contracting plant items.”
“Don was also a driving force in the extension of the NSW Earthmover Association newsletter to a full magazine and in 1973, when the magazine became the official national publication of the Earthmovers Association, was elected chairman of the news Beaconsfield Press Pty Ltd. Don held this role for a further 25 years.
“Don drew together all the small contracting and earthmoving lobby groups in 1973, which saw the establishment of the Civil Contractors Federation, to which Don, as a past State and National President, was awarded life membership in 1996.”
