Motorists in the electorate of Baulkham Hills are the safest drivers in the state according to figures on the take-up of half price driver’s licences.
The government announced last year that motorists with a clean driving record for 5 years would receive a 50% discount on the costs of their licence
Member for Baulkham Hills David Elliott said figures from RMS show more motorists from Baulkham Hills have taken up the offer than any other electorate in New South Wales.
“Not only is Baulkham Hills home to the most discount recipients, but the suburbs of Baulkham Hills, Castle Hill and Kellyville are all within the top ten suburbs in our state,” Mr Elliott said.
“It is wonderful to see so many Baulkham Hills residents pay close attention to the speed limit and drive safely.”
Mr Elliott said the ‘Fair Go for Safe Drivers’ scheme aims to provide a financial incentive for people who do the right thing during a five year period.
“Each year, hundreds of people are killed on NSW roads due to risky behaviours,” Mr Elliott said.
“This is a way we can reward good drivers and encourage other drivers with an incentive where they can save up to $81.
“This is a practical scheme which rewards people with good driving records and encourages better driving behaviour in others.
“With this policy, not only are roads in Baulkham Hills becoming safer, but residents are being assisted with some extra money in their pockets to help offset the rising cost of living.”
Of the 4.3 million drivers in NSW 2.1 million are eligible for the discount.
The figures show 3858 drivers in the electorate of Baulkham Hills have taken advantage of the discounted licence.
Since the discounted license was offered in July last year, more than 157,000 people across the state have benefited from the 50% cut.
More women have taken up the discounted licence than men, with 86,808 women claiming the discount and 71,130 men doing so.
