NSW Minister for Sport and Recreation, Graham Annesley, is encouraging parents and children to check out the hundreds of great ideas for the school holidays on the Go Play website and free iPhone app.
“Go Play is the NSW Government’s free online school holiday calendar featuring art, culture, sport, recreational and other events and activities for children of all ages across NSW,” Mr Annesley said.
“Parents sometimes run out of ideas to drag children away from the TV or computer, especially over the school break.
“The Go Play website and free iPhone app offers a huge array of affordable activities to help get children active in the fresh air.
“Since its launch, the website has attracted nearly 300,000 visits with approximately 8000 downloads of the free iPhone app so far,” Mr Annesley added.
A selection of activities includes:
• Experience a taste of farming life at the Western Sydney Parkland’s Calmsley Hill City Farm, featuring animal shows, cow milking, tractor rides and sheep shearing all located just outside of Sydney in Abbotsbury.
• Sydney Olympic Park is brilliant for bikes! Bring your own wheels or hire them in the Park. Choose from three amazing circuits starting in Bicentennial Park.
• Discover the beautiful Avoca Lagoon via a canoe or kayak trip. Sport and Recreation’s experienced guides teach children the basics, with kayaks, paddles and life jackets being provided.
• Enjoy a free guided tour of the stunning World Heritage rainforests of Gondwana in Dorrigo with NSW Parks and Wildlife Discovery rangers.
“The great thing about the Go Play app is parents can easily search for activities based on their children’s interests, age, location or cost,” Minister Annesley said.
“There are an abundance of free activities to help families on a budget so it’s definitely worth checking out the options available,” Mr Annesley concluded.
