A Little Night Sitting

Member for Baulkham Hills, David Elliott, today encouraged the community to visit the New South Wales Parliament on Tuesday, 18 June.

“Parliament impacts on people’s lives and receives daily media coverage, but very few people understand how the Parliamentary process works,” Mr Elliott said.

“I am thrilled that the NSW Parliament will be open for our community to learn about the intricacies of our Parliamentary system, which is often spoken of enviously around the world.”

Mr Elliott said that this provides an opportunity for young families to take advantage of a wonderful educational opportunity for children.

“Civics and citizenship are important parts of the educational curriculum, but often do not receive the attention they deserve for such an important part of our society,” Mr Elliott said.

“I hope that this open night provides the start of a renewed interest in the teaching of civics and citizenship right throughout our educational system.

“While education is built on reading, writing and arithmetic, our society would not function as it does today without civics and citizenship, and I particularly encourage parents to take advantage of this opportunity.”

A Little Night Sitting will operate from 4:30pm until 6:30pm on 18 June. Registration begins from 4:15pm and bookings are essential. Please call 9230 2047 or e-mail education@parliament.nsw.gov.au for more information.
